Industry
Government and Municipal
HPS Fabrications builds structural steel and equipment for public infrastructure: water treatment, dams, and municipal facilities. Work of this kind is inspected, documented and expected to last decades. We engineer it in house and fabricate it here in Wyandotte, Michigan.

Work delivered for

Infrastructure outlives its buyer
A clarifier mechanism or a dam lifting beam is specified by people who will not be in the job when it needs replacing. That changes the priorities: durability, documentation and inspectability matter more than shaving a few percent off the purchase order.
We have built clarifier systems, an upper lifting beam for the Hungry Horse Dam, and structural steel for public works. Engineering comes from ENCO, our in-house division, which has been solving structural problems since 1985.
Engineered rather than assumed
Public infrastructure usually arrives as a performance requirement and a set of constraints rather than a finished drawing package.
Our licensed professional engineers work in mechanical, electrical and structural disciplines and can take that requirement to a designed, analysed assembly: wind loads, structural weights and loads, finite element analysis. See design-build engineering.
Procurement, documentation and inspection
Public work carries paperwork, and the paperwork is part of the deliverable.
Incoming material is inspected. Welds are inspected in process rather than only at the end. Our welders and fabricators are certified across carbon steel, stainless and aluminum and retested on a regular schedule. Tom D’Angelo is a Six Sigma Black Belt and the quality system reflects that discipline.

Built and coated in house
Fabrication, structural assembly and coating all happen inside HPS. For infrastructure headed into a wet or corrosive environment, that means the protective finish was applied and inspected by the same organization that welded the assembly.

Common questions
Government and Municipal: questions buyers ask
Do you work directly with government buyers?
Yes. CAGE 52YE1, DUNS 879203024. Work includes municipal and federal infrastructure, from clarifier systems to dam lifting beams, including the upper lifting beam for Hungry Horse Dam.
Can you do the engineering as well as the fabrication?
Yes. Licensed professional engineers are on staff in mechanical, electrical and structural disciplines, so a specification can arrive as a performance requirement rather than a finished drawing package.
How do you handle inspection and documentation?
All incoming material is inspected and weld inspection happens in process rather than only at the end. Certified welders and fabricators are retested on a regular schedule. Tell us what documentation your contract requires and we will confirm what we can supply.
How large a piece of equipment can you build?
The main bay runs roughly 100 feet under a gantry crane, and larger equipment is fabricated in segments and engineered to align on assembly.
Are you a veteran-owned business?
Yes. Tom D'Angelo, who bought the company in 2019, served in the US Army in armored cavalry on the M1A1 tank.
