Commercial
HPS Fabrications fabricates architectural and commercial steel: handrail, stairs, platforms and structural elements where the finish is visible and the tolerances are tight. We fabricated handrail for Ford Field and Comerica Park. If the public will see it and lean on it, it has to be right twice over.

Work delivered for

Visible work has to be right twice
Structural steel inside a machine only has to carry the load. Architectural steel has to carry the load and look right doing it, because the public is standing next to it.
Handrail is the honest test of a fabricator. It is repetitive, it is highly visible, the joints are at eye level, and every field dimension has to be respected because there is nowhere to hide a discrepancy.

Finish is part of the product
On commercial work the coating is not corrosion protection with a colour. It is the thing people actually see.
We coat in our own paint booth, which means the finish is inspected by the same organization that fabricated the assembly. An outside coater working to a line on a drawing does not have that incentive.
Field dimensions and the real building
Commercial projects are installed into buildings that differ from their drawings. Steel fabricated to the drawing rather than to the building arrives and does not fit.
Having licensed professional engineers in house means a field condition becomes a same-week revision rather than a change order that waits on an outside firm. We also provide field support through installation.
What we fabricate
Handrail and guardrail. Stairs, platforms and walkways. Structural elements and connections. Custom architectural weldments. Anything that needs cutting, forming and welding to a visible standard.
Common questions
Commercial: questions buyers ask
What commercial work have you done?
Architectural steel and handrail, including handrail fabrication for Ford Field and Comerica Park. Handrail is repetitive, highly visible and load-bearing, and it is installed to field dimensions that rarely match the drawings exactly.
Why does that matter for my project?
Because on architectural steel every joint sits at eye level and the finish is what people actually see and touch. Consistency across hundreds of repeated parts is the real test, not the difficulty of any single one.
Can you match an architect's finish specification?
Send the specification. We coat in house in our own paint booth, so the finish is under our control rather than a subcontractor's.
Do you handle field measurement and fit-up?
Yes, with field support as part of the full lifecycle. When site dimensions differ from the drawings, the engineers who designed the part are in the same building as the fabricators.
How do you keep a large repetitive job consistent?
In-house-built fixture tables, certified welders retested on a regular schedule, incoming material inspection and in-process weld inspection.
Put a number on your next commercial job.
Send a print or describe the problem. Either works.
