About HPS Fabrications
HPS Fabrications has built metal structures and equipment in Wyandotte, Michigan since 1995. Tom D'Angelo, a US Army veteran with 25 years in metals, bought the company in 2019. ENCO Engineering, our in-house engineering division, has been solving structural problems since 1985.

The company
HPS Fabrications was founded in 1995. Tom D’Angelo bought it in 2019, bringing 25 years in metals with him.
ENCO Engineering, our in-house engineering division, is older than the fabrication business. It has been providing engineering services and solving structural challenges since 1985. In 1990 it added a team focused on port facilities, shiploaders and bulk material handling systems, which is why a Michigan fabricator ends up engineering the world’s largest shiploading station.
That pairing, a fabrication shop with a real engineering division inside it, is what makes design-build possible here and rare elsewhere.
Tom D’Angelo
Tom served in the US Army, in armored cavalry, on an M1A1 tank, going from driver to gunner to tank commander. He draws a straight line from that to how the shop runs: equipment supplied to the DoD has to work miles from any base with nobody to call, and the standard has not moved since. He is also a Six Sigma Black Belt, which shows up in the quality system rather than on a wall.
Asked what he wants HPS to be known for, he did not mention capacity or price:
“Honesty, integrity and quality. If someone hears the name HPS, I want them to feel good that it’s the right decision to work with us.”
Two facilities
Wyandotte, 4410 13th Street, Wyandotte, MI 48192. The main shop: engineering, cutting, forming, welding, machining and assembly, with roughly 100 feet of bay length under a gantry crane.
Madison Heights: fabrication and higher-volume production, with robotic welding, plus finishing and coating in a large paint booth. Most fabricators send coating to an outside company. Keeping it means an assembly never leaves our control to be coated by someone whose process we cannot see.
The people problem we do not have
Every manufacturer in this region will tell you they cannot find skilled labor. Tom’s answer to that question is unusual: it is not a problem here. People stay, and when there is a need they recommend their friends and family.
That is worth more to a customer than it sounds. Retention is why a fabricator can promise consistency across a build that runs for months, and why the tenth assembly matches the first.
How we quote
We do not over-promise. Timelines come from real supplier lead times, real labor hours and the actual current backlog. The cheapest quote is rarely the cheapest job.
Cost matters and we are competitive on it. But the most common way a fabrication project fails is not price. It is a supplier over-promising on a timeline they cannot meet.

Who you will work with
Small enough that you will speak to the people doing the work, rather than to an account manager who relays it.

Questions about HPS
How long has HPS been in business?
Founded 1995. Tom D'Angelo bought the company in 2019 and brought 25 years in metals with him. ENCO Engineering, the in-house engineering division, dates to 1985 and added port and shiploader engineering in 1990.
Is HPS veteran-owned?
Yes. Tom served in the US Army in armored cavalry on the M1A1 tank, as driver, gunner and tank commander.
Where are you located?
The main facility is at 4410 13th Street, Wyandotte, Michigan 48192, open Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. Our second facility, in Madison Heights, Michigan, handles fabrication and higher-volume production with robotic welding, plus finishing and coating.
What makes HPS different from other fabricators?
Licensed professional engineers work in the same building as the shop floor, so a customer can arrive with a problem instead of a drawing. Most fabricators of this size are build-to-print only.
